There are more improvements when there is no conductor to lead us. How true is it? I think its all rubbish. Imagine a football team without a coach. Without a winning strategy. Can the football team win? Get into any major competitions? No. Same thing here. Without the conductor, its like a team without a coach. No one to guide us along. If you think that the period two years ago where the band improved greatly when Ms Tan walked out on us was because there was no conductor, you are only half correct. Why did Ms Tan walk out on us? Its because we were playing too badly. And what happened when Ms Tan left? We were feeling guilty. This guilt pushed us to improve on our playing because we wanted Ms Tan to come back. We wanted to be able to take part in the SYF and clinh a gold. THUS, it is wrong to say that there are more improvements when there is no conductor to lead us.
As for your second point, the post is meant to demoralise people. Have you even thought your words before typing and posting them? Why would Wei Qin want to demoralise others? So that she can be above the rest? What Wei Qin is saying is that the band has come a long way to get the gold. And there are lots of obstacles in the way. The last post was just stating the obstacles that we overcomed in our last SYF. It is NOT meant to be demoralising for the other members.
People who doesn't know his/her part should not be asked to stop playing. Logical? Imagine a football team who allows anyone to play in it regardless of his/her skills. How well would it do? How far would it go? By asking people who does not know how to play his/her part to not play during that part is recommended. It can help to cut down the amount of mistakes made. And also makes balance and blending easier for the others. So cutting down the number of players for a particular part should NOT be condemned as what you are doing now.
Your last statment that Believe should not be the band motto. Instead, you suggested that Try and Try again will do better. Do you know that the word "try" also means that there is a chance of failure? And when you tell yourself, 'I will try my best' you usually will not succeed. It is proven by research that when people "try" to do something, the success rate is lower than those who just do it. And when you believe you can do something, you can. This is also proven by psychologists through hypnotising. Therefore, the term "TRY" should be condemned.
