Unknown: Han Yong, Val and wei qin. I am an unknown but i believe i know much more things than you do.
Unknown: I believe you people have problems with your band and you are trying to uncover and break this problem. But
by referencing to your comments in the tagboard...
you mention that you believe you know much more things than the 3 leaders do... and you believe we have problems with our band etc etc... you condemn the usage of your word believe as our motto and yet you use it... isnt this a total contradiction to what you said?
furthermore unknown and - both of you have misunderstood the meaning of the word believe... you interpret it in your own way that is why it is different from the way others look at in... however in general...
from the longman dictionary of contemporary english
-believe means to be sure that something is true
from the collins essential english dictionary
-believe means
1) to accept as true or real
2) to think,assume,or suppose
3) to accept the statement or opinion of a person as true
4) to be convinced of the truth or existence of
by referencing to the meanings given by 2 english dictionaries... i can say unknown you have certainly misinterpret the meaning of the word believe...
unknown you also mentioned to hanyong that research is a scientific equation of math symbols..
however i am afraid that again is your own interpretation with no solid evidences supporting it... therefore i hereby say that your stand is weak...
from the collins essential english dictionary....
-research means
1)systematic investigation to estabilish facts or collect infomation
2) to carry out investigations on a subject
so i guess unknown please justify your viewpoints....
and in your post that you mention that you are an unknown yet you know more than valerie hanyong and weiqin do?
1) there are 4 leaders in the band... why is your viewpoint only targetted specifically at the 3? isnt this a bias viewpoint?
2) if you are an unknown that means you are unknown about everything... how can you say that you know more than the leaders do?
3) if you genuinely wanted the band to improve and help solve the problems than what is the purpose of hiding yourself and not finding the leaders and talking to them and give them advices?
4) you mentioned that what our members need is a boost in morale... what you see in your band friends is lower morale and lower morale everyday... however... does your term band friends regard to the band as a whole? isnt this bias and one-sided as it is a opinion given only by a few people and not generally the whole band?
and unknown about your posts in the band blog...
1) there is a hidden intention of you wanted to destroy people's morale by saying such things... you talk about improving morale of the band members... shouldnt you be giving the leaders ideas on how to improve the band members' morale instead of doing all these?
2) what is the purpose of hiding your identity and voicing your views out in the internet with a fake name? if you should have any unhappinness in the way things are done shouldnt you be talking to the band leaders instead?
3) the tone of your post is rather strong and agressive and as if out to challenge the leaders... shouldnt you use a more proper approach?
in conclusion...
1) the duty of being a leader is not easy... so it will be good to help them by properly voicing out your comments and views...
2) i am sure that your views will be appreciated if they are relevant and will be applied if they work...
i am just voicing out my stand as a member of the band... because i feel i am part of the organisation... should you have any unhappinness or doubts or anything out there... please do so by talking to the band leaders and not doing stuff like this...
thanks... may xmsb soar to greater heights! jiayou! take care! =)

In response to Unknown's comments on the tagboard, I'm here to make some issues clear.
"unknown: ur Jan 8 Post sounded like if we were independent we would improved. It sounded as if we need not any conductor."
"unknown: I think u are obviously trying to make negative ppl more negative. If u dunno know that part it doesn't mean u must shut up or anything. Whats the motto Believe for? Isn't try and try again better?"
The points you are saying are as followed:
- There are more improvements when there is no conductor to lead us.
- The post is meant to demoralise people.
- People who doesn't know his/her part should not be asked to stop playing.
- The motto Believe is inappropriate.
There are more improvements when there is no conductor to lead us. How true is it? I think its all rubbish. Imagine a football team without a coach. Without a winning strategy. Can the football team win? Get into any major competitions? No. Same thing here. Without the conductor, its like a team without a coach. No one to guide us along. If you think that the period two years ago where the band improved greatly when Ms Tan walked out on us was because there was no conductor, you are only half correct. Why did Ms Tan walk out on us? Its because we were playing too badly. And what happened when Ms Tan left? We were feeling guilty. This guilt pushed us to improve on our playing because we wanted Ms Tan to come back. We wanted to be able to take part in the SYF and clinh a gold. THUS, it is wrong to say that there are more improvements when there is no conductor to lead us.
As for your second point, the post is meant to demoralise people. Have you even thought your words before typing and posting them? Why would Wei Qin want to demoralise others? So that she can be above the rest? What Wei Qin is saying is that the band has come a long way to get the gold. And there are lots of obstacles in the way. The last post was just stating the obstacles that we overcomed in our last SYF. It is NOT meant to be demoralising for the other members.
People who doesn't know his/her part should not be asked to stop playing. Logical? Imagine a football team who allows anyone to play in it regardless of his/her skills. How well would it do? How far would it go? By asking people who does not know how to play his/her part to not play during that part is recommended. It can help to cut down the amount of mistakes made. And also makes balance and blending easier for the others. So cutting down the number of players for a particular part should NOT be condemned as what you are doing now.
Your last statment that Believe should not be the band motto. Instead, you suggested that Try and Try again will do better. Do you know that the word "try" also means that there is a chance of failure? And when you tell yourself, 'I will try my best' you usually will not succeed. It is proven by research that when people "try" to do something, the success rate is lower than those who just do it. And when you believe you can do something, you can. This is also proven by psychologists through hypnotising. Therefore, the term "TRY" should be condemned.

guys, if were here 2 years ago, for the 03 syf, you'd remember when miss tan walked out on us, just 2-3 weeks before the syf coz we played badly. yeah, and we were left without a conductor. the whole band was like, so worried that she will not come back in time for the comp... and we were really fortunate to have the syf being postponed to july, coz of sars... den finally when she came back to see us, we played really really well... and she came back! we were so goddamned elated haha... i still remember... couldn't stop smiling... ok, so the point is this. i don't want to have to go through the whole experience of not having a conductor just few weeks before syf... its scary. and troubling and worrying. if mr tan really walks out on us, there goes our chance of participating in syf, let alone the gold medal we all want. so yeah, please practice hard ok? as long as you try your best and keep improving consistently, i doubt we'll have a problem.
2 years ago, up til a few weeks before the first syf date, miss tan kept criticizing us, and guys, you HAVE to remember that criticism is not a bad thing. take it in a positive light and further improve on it. play your part well first, then we can go on to playing it well as a section, and then a band. then our gold will come. so as mr tan says, if you can't play a part well, exclude yourself from the part. eg, cassandra can't play the beginning well, so she'll just have to pretend to play for that part. it'll work.
when i heard mr tan walked out on you guys yesterday i was so angry. i mean, the syf is barely 3 months away! you might think its a lot of time, but let me tell you. it isn't. trust me, i've participated in 2 other syfs, and the amount of time i spent practicing last time is nothing compared to this. don't worry too much about your studies... because its a proven fact that you must have an active cca to do well in your studies too. so yeah, i dunno what else to say, but time is really precious now, and we cannot afford to have mr tan walking out on us every practice. so practice well ok? SLs, mr tan told you ur section weakness yesterday, so improve on it.
btw, orientation was a success!!! yay!!! 3 cheers for orientation committee... jimmy, yiang shan, agnes (paiseh forgot bout you...), baozhen, peggy, shaphan, jiawei!!! haha...
weiqin! damn i forgot to put my name again!
